Hochelaga Overpass
Reconstruction of Hochelaga overpass required completely demolishing it and then rebuilding it according to current standards. Since the work stretched across autoroute 25 north to the Louis-Hippolyte Lafontaine tunnel exit, traffic management—in order to comply with "zero impact" of the work—proved to be very complex. In fact, given the precarious condition of the structure, the demolition work had to be carried out in one single weekend, requiring complete closure of the autoroute in both directions.
The reconstruction was carried out over a period of 6 months, requiring more than 100 workers during the peak period. An intensive, 7-day-a-week work schedule, with a night shift as well, was necessary in order to meet the target date.
The reconstruction work also required major repairs to the paving and to the lighting inside Louis-Hippolyte Lafontaine tunnel. The work was carried out at night over a number of months. As the tunnel couldn't be completely closed, the work had to be carried out while maintaining traffic on one lane.
Despite the large scope of the work, the overall schedule was met.
